Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit to McKean County Criminal History, the purposes for which that information is used, and the limited circumstances in which it may reach another party. By using this website, you agree to the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, we retain the message as needed to respond. We keep that correspondence within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive basic technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Pages viewed and the length of each visit
  • Your device's IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • The referring website, when one is available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. You may block cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them can change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a query to the outside service that processes it
  • Maintain site availability and page performance
  • Find and correct technical faults
  • Measure which pages visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

McKean County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. It explains how to reach official custodians, including the McKean County Clerk of Courts, the Sheriff's Office, the Pennsylvania State Police Central Repository, and the Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law Public Website. Pennsylvania's Criminal History Record Information Act, 18 Pa.C.S. §§ 9101-9183, governs criminal-history information held and disseminated by covered agencies. This private site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes placed on this site. Information submitted through a box is handled under that provider's privacy policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to McKean County offices, Pennsylvania court and agency portals, legal resources, or third-party search services. Once you follow an outside link, that site's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not control that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers processing a query
  • Advertising networks serving content on the site
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards for information collected through the site. No internet-connected service is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary based on the law that applies where you live. Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law, 65 P.S. §§ 67.101-67.3104, governs qualifying government-agency records, while the Criminal History Record Information Act, including 18 Pa.C.S. § 9121, regulates covered criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not turn this site's visitor information into a McKean County government record. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request access to personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to delete your personal information
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Object to or opt out of certain processing when the law provides that right

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this privacy policy. Any revision will be posted here with a new effective date, so review this page periodically for the current terms.
